Georgetown: A number of developing housing areas in Region Five and Six are moving along smoothly.
Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal on Tuesday visited some of the sites in the presence of Regional Housing Officer, Ms. Kristina Muthusami and technical staff attached to the Central Housing & Planning Authority (CH&PA).

The Minister first visited Number 79 and Number 75 village, where thirty six (36) house lots have been allocated.
“They have completed most of the preparatory works in terms of the Land clearing at Number 79, and they are now at the point where they are constructing the access bridges then they will be putting the crusher run for the road,” the Minister stated.
Minister Croal also visited Number 75 village. He explained that approximately 230 house lots have been allocated in that area and preparatory works are ongoing to begin infrastructure works. Similar works are also afoot in Hampshire/Williamsburg.
Minister Croal expects these works to be completed by November 2021, to the benefit of dozens of Guyanese, who have been allotted lands under CH&PA.
In addition to this, the Minister and team visited a housing area at Fort Ordnance, to explore possible routes for the construction of a new access road, aimed at reducing commute time when the area is completed. Alternatives are also being ironed out to address the issue of trucks that regularly traverse the area, causing damages to the thoroughfare.
Meanwhile in Region Five, works are also moving apace in Experiment, in keeping with a promise the Minister made during an outreach in March, 2021.
All of these projects fall under the $13.8 billion in contracts signed by the Ministry in March. Minister Croal noted that he was pleased to see the progression of these projects within the short period and more engagements with contractors are expected.
“We are working with the contractors to have these works completed within the stipulated deadline and to the best standards,” the Minister stated.
Berbicians are also set to benefit from the continued rehabilitation of the regional housing offices. Minister Croal used the opportunity to meet with the two newly appointed Regional Housing Officers and assess the level of services offered. In this regard, he indicated the Ministry will be pledging more resources to facilitate upgrades.
