Georgetown : Well-known Muslim scholar Maulana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani paid a courtesy call on President Donald Ramotar.
Shaykh Kabbani, who was born in Beirut, Lebanon, was invited to Guyana to deliver a series of lectures on peace from the Islamic point of view.
In a brief comment, he said he was very honoured to have the privilege of meeting the Guyanese Head of State, whom he described as very humble. He plans to visit again sometime in the near future when he would travel around to see more of the country.
Shaykh Kabbani is one of the most prominent scholars of Islamic Doctrine and the spiritual science of Sufism.
He is the holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the American University of Beirut and a Degree in Islamic Divine Law from the University of Damascus in Syria. He also did medical studies in Louvain, Belgium.
Shaykh Kabbani advocates an understanding of Islam described by his supporters as fundamentally based on peace, tolerance, interreligious cooperation, respect and love.
