Georgetown: Repsol Exploration S.A, a Spanish based company, today finalized an aagreement with the Government of Guyana to undertake oil exploration in an area knownas ‘Kanuku Block.’
The agreement was signed in the presence of Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, Robert Persaud by authorized Company Director of Repsol, Jose Murillasa.
The license has been granted for a period of four years and the company hopes to have a well by 2015.
According to Minister Persaud, Guyana needs to build the skills to prepare the country to manage an oil and gas sector. While. “We insist that Guyanese are not only the cooks and cleaners, but also we become the technical persons, based on the skills available.”
Murillas said “Repsol is anxious to commence work obligations which include new2D and 3D marine seismic acquisition in the first phase, to be followed by an exploration well in the second phase of the license….“We’re very pleased to work with the Government of Guyana and we’re very committed to the exploration of Guyana territorial waters.”
