The increase of respiratory illness in Barbados has force the Ministry of Health to remind the public to practise good hygiene to prevent viruses from spreading.
Senior Medical Officer of Health, Dr Karen Springer says that during the period August 13 to September 8, 189 cases of acute respiratory illness had been recorded in the public sector compared to 129 cases for a similar period last year.
In addition, 34 cases of severe acute respiratory illness were admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital from July 15 to September 8, compared to 27 cases for the previous four weeks.
