Georgetown: Under the theme “Green, Clean and Responsible; Securing the future of mining” the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission [GGMC] in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment will host the 10th Biennial Mining week.
On Monday August 26 and Tuesday August 27, the National Mining and Quarrying conference was held at the Guyana International Conference (GICC) along with an exhibition.
The activities commenced with a walk on August 25 in Georgetown and will culminate with Pork Knocker’s day on August 31 at Golden Beach Bartica.
This 10th National Mining & Quarrying Conference event, the ministry said, will highlight the importance of mining to the national economy. Participants will also illustrate the future development of extractive industries.
There will be Education Sessions & Discussion Forum on August 28, a Tour/Outreach along with a Customer Appreciation Day on August 29, 2013, an Outreach to Mining Districts on August 30 and a Porknocker’s Day on August 31, to wrap up the observances, the ministry said.
The timings and venues of the various activities will be announced shortly.
Meanwhile, the ministry dismissed concerns that the GGMC’s 34th Anniversary celebrations and Bursary awards had been cancelled.
