Retired teachers to administer special needs education

Georgetown : Retired teachers will be used to enhance the Education System, as a formal appointment was made on September 25, according to Assistant Chief Education Officer (Secondary), Doodmatie Singh .

Her comments came during the final in a series of Corporal Punishment, Automatic Promotion consultation held at the North Ruimveldt Secondary School.

The teachers will be appointed at the various schools across the country, to administer Special Needs Education.

According to Singh, while the appointment was made on September 25, it will be effective on October 1, 2012.

A five – year strategy is also being crafted by the Education Ministry to cater for students with special needs. This move, according to Education Minister Priya Manickchand, is to ensure that the needs of the differently-abled are catered for.
