Rift between unions will not stop May Day celebrations

Bridgetown.

The spilt  between the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) and the Barbados Workers Union will not stop May Day celebrations.

Labour Minister, Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo gave the assurance as she spoke to the media about the Government's recognition of CTUSAB as the umbrella body for the labour movement in Barbados.

She says her ministry is committed to ensuring that May Day celebrations today will go ahead as planned.

General Secretary of the BWU Sir Roy Trotman says a new path is being charted by the union.The veteran trade unionist told Trakker News that the BWU will be dealing with many of the issues that are currently existing on the island including human trafficking and child labour.

Sir Roy said these problems are caused by a lack of rules to govern the conditions of employment.

He added that May Day celebrations should be seen as a time to rebuild the families and society.
