Keith Rayside Sr, the man who pioneer road construction in Barbados died yesterday morning. For over fifty years Rayside was at the helm of a company (Rayside Construction) which was responsible for a number of the lead road works projects on the island, including the Highway 2A and the Bridgetown Road Safety Improvement scheme.
Rayside 86, founded a concrete block making business in the early 1960s at Mason Hall Street, Bridgetown, in 1967 he established Rayside Constructions at Friendship Quarry and began quarrying.
Under his leadership, Rayside Construction became a major force in road buliding in Barbados and for several was the only black owned firm involved in the construction of roads.
