Roof of teacher’s college damaged by fire

Bridgetown.

The roof of main building of Erdiston Teachers' Training College, at Erdiston, St Michael,  was damaged by a fire of unknown orgin last night.

Seven fire tenders from the six stations on the island responded to the blaze  which started after 6 p.m, acting principal Patrica Saul told the press workmen were carrying out repairs to the roof of building which is over 100 years old.

A passer by raised the alarm about the fire at about 6.30 p.m and the fire service was call. The building had been unoccupied since September and was under renovation.

Sections of the building were being used as a computer lab, classroom, staff quarters and offices. Because of the fire there will be no school for students as the training college, the special unit and the nursery school on the compound.
