Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, has responded to the recent incident involving two British tourists in Hincks Street, last Sunday March 17.
In a statement issued this morning the Minister said that the Government was taking the matter very seriously and that the Royal Barbados Police Force had moved swiftly on the matter.
The said the Government was deeply saddened by this incident and its thoughts are with Mr. and Mrs. Prior.
He says the country's absolute priority is the safety of its community and visitors to the island.
Mr. Sealy is also giving the assurance that every incident is taken very seriously and the authorities are investigating this very thoroughly and looking to support the family at every step of the way.
He confirmed that Mr. and Mrs. Prior have both left the hospital and government is doing its utmost to support them in whatever way it can.
"We are deeply sadden by this incident and our thoughts are with Mr and Mrs Prior. Our absolute priority is the safety of our community and visitors to our island. Barbados is a friendly and welcoming country with more than 250,000 British tourists each year, many of them are repeat visitors," Sealy said.
"Like every country in the world, some crimes will occur.Please let me reassure you that we take every incident very seriously and the authorities are investigating this very thoroughly and looking to support the family at every step of the way. We can confirm that Mr and Mrs Prior have left the hospital and we are doing our utmost to support them in whatever way we can", the Minister added.
The two suspects have been charged with robbing and shooting the couple. They will appear in court this afternoon.
