Samuels’ show

Marlon Samuels was the star on the first day of the first Test between the West Indies and Zimbabwe at Kensington Oval.

The 32 year old Jamacian playing his first international match after missing the West Indies tour to Australia because of an eye injury took four wickets with his off-spin to send Zimbabwe tumbling to 211 all out.

He bowled Craig Ervine with his first ball and took three of the last four Zimbabwe wickets to fall for 15 runs to record his best bowling figures of  four wickets for 15 runs in 6.4 overs.

In addition to his outstanding bowling performance, Samuels held  a superb, low, left handed catch at gully to dismissed Hamilton Masakadza of the bowling of Kemar Roach.

The classy batsman and part time off spiner had missed the preceding One Day Internationals and Twenty 20 while recuperating from an eye injury after being struck by Lasith Manlinga of Sri Lanka in the Austrlian Big Bash. 

Off-spinner Shane Shilling whose last test match was against England in 2012 at Nottingham took 3 wickets for 58 runs from 22 overs.

Zimbabwe won the  toss and batted there were bowled out for 211 in 76.4 overs, opener Tino Mawoyo top scored with an even 50.

At the close of play West Indies were 18 for two with Chris Galye 11 not out and Darren Bravo on nough. Opener Kieran Powell and Night watchman Kemar Roach were dismissed by fast bowler Kyle Jarvis off consecutive balls.
