North West District : Sarah Browne of Santa Rosa copped the Miss Moruca Expo 2012
The Exposition held over the weekend allows for the region’s residents to come together for merriment and exhibit their culture and talent in a series of events staged in the Santa Rosa community. This has been the 7th exposition.
Activities included swimming, canoeing and tug-o-war competitions at Cabucalli as well as a road race.
Miss Moruca contest, the highlight of the Expo and staged at the Kumaka Playfield, Santa Rosa. This year saw four young beauties in front of the biggest crowd ever vying for the crown. The contestants were involved in five segment of competition; traditional wear, swim wear, evening gown, talent and an intelligence test with Sarah Browne emerging this year’s queen, Nikita Lewis(Waramuri,) Sabrina Rahaman(Kwebanna) and Roamona Charles (Assakata) placing first, second and third respectively.
The Ministry of Tourism provided each contestant with a bouquet and a cheque of $5000.
The Amerindian Affairs Ministry provided a hamper to the Miss Moruca Queen. The Queen also received $60000 from Digicel.
