Scenes from Diwali Motorcade 2011

Georgetown : This evening the eve of the Hindu festival of Deepavli (Diwali), the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha hosted their annual Motorcade. More than 13 floats from Mandirs across the country took part to usher in the festival of lights. The floats started at the Shree Krishna Mandir in Campbellville along the East Coast Public Road and will end at the LBI ground where there will be a cultural show and the judging of the floats.

Among dignitaries at the starting point were the President of the Dharmic Sabha Reepu Daman Persaud, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Culture Minister Dr. Frank Anthony and Trinidad’s chutney singer “Hit Man”.

Deepavli means " row of lights" is a National Holiday in Guyana. It is known as the darkest night and one practice  Hindus will light diyas in the evening. There are many stories attached to this bright festival which originates from India.

  1. Where are the joyous Guyanese crowds, nay multitudes at this great time of celebration?
Grovelling under the PPP’s VAT to put food on the table in the morning.
Three million dollars plus pension monthly for INCOMPETENT insane Jagdeo. See him experience the ;war of the fleece’ cussing one and all at home and abroad
Oh what a depraved life my fellow suffering Guyanese!
Salvation is close at hand. Vote for the key on Noveember 28th and experience you new birth as proud Guyanese when mother Guyana finally begins to provide you the promised Golden El Dorado. Where your patriotic efforts will be adequately rewarded by a caring and understanding Administration lead by Khemraj Ramjattan as President and Raphael Trotman as Prime Minister, in the first instance, until Guyana returns to an Executive Prime Minister with dispatch!!!
