Georgetown : The Guyana Police Force is reminding all road users that schools countrywide will reopen on Monday and consequently there will be an increase in traffic on the roads.
The police statement says “It should be borne in mind that some children will be attending school for the first time, while others will also be attending a new school for the first, and they may be unfamiliar with their surroundings.
With this in mind the Guyana Police Force is urging motorists to be cautious and to drive defensively, especially when approaching school areas; be on the lookout for children who may use the roads carelessly, whether doing so as pedestrians or pedal cyclists.”
Children at this time are reminded to always walk on the right hand side of the road so as to face the oncoming traffic; use sidewalks, pavements and other footpaths where provided and always use pedestrian crossings to cross the road.
The Police Force is also calling on road users to always be alert and make a determined effort to reduce accidents on our roads by exercising the five C’s; Care, Caution, Consideration, Courtesy and Common-sense.
