Scores of workers on the breadline as opposition slash subvention to state run media.

Georgetown- Workers of the state-run media are contemplating their next move this morning after the conclusion of last night's session in parliament when the combined opposition voted against  close to $300 million in budgetary allocations for the state-run, National Communications Network and the Government Information Agency (GINA) . The cut sparked a candle light vigil last evening as workers converged at the parliament building, calling the move a sad day for the media fraternity. The Alliance for Change (AFC) and the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) voted in favour of reducing the subventions that were allocated to these agencies from $81.2 million and $130.4 million respectively to $1 per agency. The capital expenditures budgeted for both NCN and GINA, which were $65 million and $15 million respectively were also reduced to zero. This accounts for more than $291 million in cuts for both entities.
