Second COVID 19 death recorded in Guyana

Georgetown: Guyana has recorded its second COVID 19 death at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old patient was one of two admitted to the Ministry’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Guyana’s first COVID-19 patient –a 52-year-old woman of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) – died on March 11 at the Georgetown Public Hospital, hours after she was admitted.

The woman had Diabetes and Hypertension; the second patient who succumbed on Tuesday also had underlying medical conditions.

Reports indicate that he was initially admitted to the hospital for another illness but later tested positive for the coronavirus. He was later isolated.

The Pan American Health Organisation is projecting that Guyana could see as many as 1400 cases of the coronavirus. As of the 29th March, over 40 persons were tested for the disease with eight of those tests returning a positive result.
