Georgetown : Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan has reiterated his call for more men and women to join the Guyana Police Force (GPF), noting that the force is short of 2000.
Minister Ramjattan made the call at the Community Policing Groups’ (CPGs) 40th anniversary observance where he was delivering the feature address.
Minister Ramjattan noted that there are many reasons persons are refusing to join the GPF. He said people argue that salary is one of the main reasons. “We are 2000 police men short because of a whole lot of constraints; people not wanting to join up because they say that salaries are too small, but I will be urging members of community policing groups and the press to also make the call,” Minister Ramjattan stated.
The established strength of the GPF is approximately 6800.
