Senior officials of the Opposition PPP met with GECOM to discuss some issues of concern

Georgetown : Senior officials of the Opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP), met with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), to discuss a number of critical issues of concern to the Party relative to the forthcoming Local Government Elections. GECOM, led by its Chairman, Dr. Steve Surujbally, along with the Chief Election Officer, Mr. Keith Lowenfield, and his Senior Staff competently addressed all of the questions raised by the members of the PPP delegation, and were able to address all issues that needed clarifying, as well as attempting to assuage any concerns the Party may have had. 
The Party raised seven  specific issues of concern which included;

1.         The Qualifying Date, which was identified by GECOM as February 29, 2016.

2.         The period identified for the conduct of Claims and Objections and the volume of persons who would be conducting transfers.

3.         Placement of voters within their correct constituency.

4.         The accuracy of sketch maps and their descriptions.

5.         The Voter Education exercise.

6.         Readiness of the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils.

7.         The ethnicity, gender, racial balance and diversity of persons employed by GECOM.

 

Present at the meeting from the PPP/C Delegation were, Mr Clement Rohee- General Secretary, Mr Rohee, Mr. Zulifcar Mustapha, Mr. Neil Kumar, Mr. Clinton Collymore and Mr. Somwar.
