Seven police officers charged with murder of three in Moruga

Port-of-Spain: Seven police officers have appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayres Caesar jointly charged with three counts of murder in  the July killings of Abigail Johnson, Alana Duncan and Kerron Eccles.

The officers were represented by Senior Counsel Israel Khan and Subhas Panday while the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard represented the state as lead prosecutor.

Khan asked that the officers be kept away from other inmates while in prison and for the matter to be expedited.

The DPP agreed and the matter was transferred to the Princes Town Magistrates Court where the seven accused will appear on November 15th.

Speaking at the daily police news conference Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs admitted to being saddened by the development but he assured the public that despite the arrests the police service remains committed to its mandate to protect and serve.
