Shortage of legislative draftmen says AG

Bridgetown.

There is a increase in the demand for legislation across the region and there is a shortage of trained people to draft it.

It is a challenge which Barbados' Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, says must be addressed with adequate remuneration commensurate  with the function performed by legislative drafters and greater opportunity for upward mobility for them within the Civil Service.

Addressing particpants from across the Caribbean at a CARICOM Legislative Drafting  Seminar at Accra Hotel yesterday, Brathwaite said indications were the main downfall of legislative offices was a lack of resources to perform the role of the legislative draftsman.

The three day seminar is being presented by the Caribbean Community Secretariat in collaboration with the British High Commission and the European Union.
