Six children diagnosed with dengue fever in South Trinidad

Point Fortin: Six children from three different communities in South Trinidad have tested positive for dengue fever and are now being treated at the San Fernando General Hospital.

The children have been identified as two-year-old Jayden Vialva, his one-year-old brother Eli and five-month-old Donte Vialva, of Warden Road, Point Fortin.

The children were being fed intravenous fluids at Ward Five of the hospital. Also listed in stable conditions were four-year-old Amari Jayden Sookdeo of Petite Morne, Ste Madeleine and sisters Rianna and Leanna Cotais, aged 10 and 11 respectively, of Perry Young Road, Indian Walk, Moruga.

The parents of all of the infected children said blood tests done at the hospital, proved that the children had contracted dengue fever.

Member of Parliament for Point Fortin Paula Gopee-Scoon has called for a nationwide spraying programme. She said she was familiar with the depolorable conditions at Warden Road as she had spent three weekends in the area.

Gopee-Scoon said she had contacted officials from Insect Vector Control, at the Point Fortin Borough Corporation and Ministry of Local Government and was advised that spraying in Point Fortin will begin today.
