Georgetown- The Caribbean stands to benefit from US$130 million in financial assistance from the United States to deal with crime and security in the region.The assistance to all Caricom nations will see enhancements in all areas of crime fighting and the efforts to stop narco and gun trafficking. At the meeting, Caribbean leaders pressed President Obama for greater support in securing the region from the traffic in illegal narcotics and small arms. The leaders met following the Sixth Summit of the Americas, which ended on Sunday afternoon. In the past former President Bharrat Jagdeo at many public forums slammed the US for their poor assistance in the fight against narco trafficking. He is on record as saying that the US barely commits 30,000 US per year to tackle drugs, noting that most of the trafficked substance in used in America.
