“Smith’s columns should be put in a book”

Port of Spain: Media icon Keith Smith may best be remembered for his "Editor-at-Large" columns that were published daily in the Trinidad Express newspaper.

Today, just hours after his death, Port of Spain Mayor and Smith's close friend, Louis Lee Sing, is calling for the famous columns to be published in a book.

In fact, Lee Sing says he and Smith had talked about doing it several times but had not yet been able to get the green light from One Caribbean Media Ltd, parent company of the Express newspaper.

He says he hopes it can now be done.

Smith, who began his career at age 18, died around 3 am today at his Laventille home on Old St Joseph Road. He was 65.

He had been ailing with cancer for a long time but deteriorated during the last two weeks.
