Port-of-Spain: Soca artiste Farmer Nappy has been voted as popular US music channel MTV Iggy's Artiste of the Week, after a stunning turnaround in votes as he went up against four other artistes from Denmark, Argentina, Ghana and Italy.
Yesterday Nappy was trailing a distant second with a mere 13 percent of the votes, while another artiste, Anbuley from Italy, was the clear front runner with 70 percent.
With the votes ending at midnight Eastern time and in a rally reminiscent to the votes that won designer Anya Ayoung-Chee the Project Runway Fan Favourite title, thousands of nationals began a steady stream of votes in favour of Farmer Nappy after churning up support on the social networking sites, dramatically swinging the votes around eventually ending with Farmer Nappy climbing from 13 percent to 64.4 percent, while the initial leader, Anbuley, saw her 70 percent tally drop to 30 percent.
Farmer Nappy will be featured on the MTV Iggy website as the Artiste of the Week and will also be allowed to give his story in a tell-all interview.
His 2012 composition, "You make me surrender", failed to earn him a spot in the Groovy Soca Monarch finals, but can now claim the accolades of global recognition for his work this year.
