Georgetown: In increasing the visibility and understanding of the benefits that international standards can bring to support development and export potential to Guyanese Businesses, a collaborative workshop was held with stakeholders on Wednesday.
The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) in collaboration with the Commonwealth Standards Network (CSN) hosted the workshop for stakeholders at Hadfield Street, Werk-en-Rust Georgetown.
The workshop attracted representatives from both Government Agencies and Private Sector.
Head of Marketing and Communications of the GNBS Syeid Ibrahim in his remarks at the opening of the workshop mentioned International standards play an important role in promoting productivity and efficiency, reducing costs, removing barriers to trade, and driving economic growth.
Hence, he said building upon the Commonwealth advantage can trigger significant additional economic gains to Guyana and local businesses.
The workshop was delivered by: Technical standardization expert Mr. Glenn Bosmans representing the CSN, Mr. Peter Sissons Head of International Engagement British Standard Institution (BSI), and MS. Andrea Mendonca Technical Officer II Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS).
This collaboration started at the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, when the United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister announced the establishment of the Commonwealth Standards Network (CSN) to tackle non-tariff barriers and promote strong trade amongst all Commonwealth states through the participation, adoption and implementation of international standards.
