Georgetown: Information Technology students from New Amsterdam Multilateral School were treated to informative session as computer giant STARR Computer recently hosted 65 fourth and fifth form students who were given a tour of the Samsung Experience Center, Technical Department and Renewable Energy Installation.
The enthusiastic students interacted with staff members and asked questions on solar panels and wind power. General Manager, RehmanMajeed made a short presentation to the students encouraging them to focus on their studies and to remember that a technology career can be fun yet very rewarding. He said 20 years ago students did not have the benefit of the internet for research so students today have access to the "world largest library" and they should use the internet for learning and research first and foremost. Also mentioned was information on new cutting edge technologies that STARR carries such as SMART TVs, Samsung SMART watches to make phone calls, projector phones and others etc.
Mr. Majeed further underscored that STARR started educational field trips and seminars over 10 years ago. Thousands of students from Secondary Schools, University of Guyana, Technical Institutes, have attended. To further this drive STARR hopes to partner with the Ministry of Education to have seminars covering renewable energy and hands on demonstration to in all public schools in Georgetown. He thinks programs like this can better help students visualize and learn more about renewable energy solutions. STARR has been using renewable energy for over the past 6 years.
He also thanked teachers Parbattie Phillips, Jason Phillips, Mr. NatesawarBarran, Roshanna Allison for making the effort to give the students such an educational experience.
