Georgetown: Approximately 6,000 acres of State land for Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural purposes will open up in the Region Four area.
This was announced by Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Lands and Survey Commission, Trevor Benn at the agency’s end-of-year news conference at its’ Durban backlands, Georgetown head office on Monday.
“We will advertise for bidders using a particular design they would have to meet this design because we don’t want any more roads where only one car can pass through it has to be an upgrade of Georgetown and by the way, this area when completed will be about 51 percent of the GT landmass,” Benn explained.
He said the idea is to create a modern facility unlike any other in the country.
“We want to make sure that we do not replicate what we call house lot schemes but to have real, forward-looking land development schemes which would capture better roads and sidewalks and green spaces and a mix of business and commercial and residential lots so that we can really move into the 21st century in the way we design our facilities,” he said.
Benn said there has been an increasing demand for State lands, especially in the Region Four area.
And, in order to meet that demand, he said the commission is moving aggressively to repossess a number of the lands that have been leased to persons, but for one reason or the other have not been occupied.
In addition, Benn said “as you are aware, in January, 2019, Guyana will host the Seventeenth Session of the Committee for the Review of the Convention (CRIC). This conference will be the largest hosted in Guyana since the Non-Aligned Movement Conference with approximately 400 to 600 persons from 197 country parties expected to attend the CRIC Meeting. The Commission along with the National Planning Committee will be hosting special press conferences and other related event in relation to this conference in the coming weeks. To date, 2 advanced missions from the UNCCD were facilitated in preparation for this marquee event.”
