Georgetown : Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, under whose purview the offices within the Ministry of the Presidency resides was  commended by Head of the Project Management Office (PMO), Dr. Marlon Bristol for his stewardship on environmental issues.

“I think the Minister has demonstrated excellent leadership on environmental issues so far and has been looking for every possible cooperation to support the achievement of the Green State Development Strategy (GSDS),” Dr. Bristol expressed.

Minister Harmon, the PMO Head noted, has been instrumental in all the activities related to Guyana’s fight against Climate Change and sustainable environmental management and has been working with the supporting international partners and organisations, such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

“To see how all these agencies can come together to support our efforts in developing a green state, so I think he has demonstrated great stewardship in moving the environment agenda forward,” Dr. Bristol said.

Following his assumption to office, Minister Harmon dispatched a letter to Norway’s Environment Minister expressing the Government of Guyana’s interest in continuing fruitful relations with that country.

As recent as December 2017, the State Minister extended an invitation to the Environment Minister, who has since demitted office in January of this year, to continue engagements on the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund.

Dr. Bristol said, “we are just giving that new minister some time to settle,” before proceeding with the discourse.

Minister Harmon had announced that acknowledgment was received from Norway in relation to the meeting, which will also address a review of the 2009- signed agreement between the two countries.

President David Granger had made it clear that the GSDS be prioritised in the Norway Agreement with Guyana.

In addition, Dr, Bristol pointed to the need for the public to follow the work of the PMO and other departments within the MOTP on their various social media platforms.

He said the departments have all been working to integrate the work they have been conducting on the various platforms, helping to keep Guyanese abreast with project implementation and other climate-related developments that can affect them directly or indirectly.

According to Dr. Bristol, “once you have access to the internet you can follow us on social media and our website and you will be updated quarterly with what’s happening within the PMO or even the OCC.”
