Georgetown- Opposition parties, PNC/R and AFC have taken their grievances to OAS assistant secretary general Albert Ramdin. These include recent statements made by the Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo about what the opposition claim to be racial overtones and incitement. Jagdeo at the recent Police Annual Conference told officers, " if someone points a gun at you, shoot to kill". At the Babu John commemoration he is accused of "cussing down" the opposition.According to the AFC, such language in an election year is viewed as inciting and outright racist.
The party said that it took the opportunity to remind the visiting OAS officials about the media blackout that the AFC has been experiencing and the unwillingness of the PPP administration to ensure that the media space is fair and open.
The President, however made mention that certain groups and media outfit will have a field day with these statements. He said that he does not listen to fools. Jagdeo is campaigning for his party since he is expected to demit office this year. There is firm belief that despite the many accusations and claims of corruption and mismanagement, the PPP can never lose another election in Guyana.
