Stores in Bridgetown going duty free

Bridgetown.

The City of Bridgetown will launch Duty Free Day, this Friday, the move was suggested by the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry last year but was objected to by some of the country 's collection agencies.

The Ministry of Finance has now the green light for Barbadians to spend up to $1000 without paying duty on the items. Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler told Trakker News that the move to extend duty free provisions, which are usually only afforded to visitors could save the country foreign exchange as money that might have left  the island for purchases overseas would be used at home in local currency.

A  number of stores in Bridgetown are set to open as early as 6.a.m. on Friday to handle the rush of shoppers expected to take advantage of the offer.
