Storm passed north of Barbados

Bridgetown.

Tropical Storm Ernesto passed north of Barbados at 2 am this morning, a storm warning was issued at 5 o'clock yesterday evening by the Government Meteological Services, stating that the tropical depression had been upgraded to a tropical storm which was expected to affect Barbados within 12 to 18 hours.

All emergency services on the island were activated and flight operations at the Grantley Adams International Airport were suspended from midnight until 10 o'clock this morning.

Several entertainment activities were postponed and the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) announced that the Pic-O-De Crop Calypso Finals, one of the main events of the Crop Over Festival which was schedule to take place at Kensington Oval tonight had been shifed to the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.

Thousands of shoppers rushed to supermarkets across the country to stocked up on household items in preparation for the storm.

The storm warning for Barbados was discontinue at 5 o'clock this morning.
