Bridgetown.
A strike at the Welfare Department was averted yesterday, after officials of the Ministry of Social Care promise them to find alternative accommodation for them today.
Seraval employees including welfare officers and administration staff bluntly refused to work in the old National Insurance Building on Fairchild Street, Bridgetown, which has been fraught with environmental problems for a number of years.
Staff have been falling ill since they were relocated to the fifth floor of the building last year, the problems peaked on Monday when the fire alarm when off and everyone in the building were evacuated except them, because they did not hear the ring.
After a meetinging with officials of the ministry led Acting Permanent Secretary Tennyson Springer, the workers were given the assurance that alternative accomodation would be found for them today.
