Strike by BWA workers enter second week

Bridgetown.

The industrial action by workers at the Barbados Water Authority(BWA) goes into a second week  after management at the authority and the Barbados Workers Union (BWU)  failed to reach agreement on a number of demands made by the union on behalf of its members.

Officials at BWA  called an emergency  meeting yesterday afternoon, following reports that the striking workers have been blocking customers from conducting their business.

Police public relations officer, Inspector David Welch confirmed that police operations control did receive calls in this regard and  a team from the special services unit was sent off to look into the matter.

Welch told the media in such cases, arrests will be a last resort.
