The strike by 34 teachers at the Alexandra School is over, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart made the announcement yesterday afternoon at a press conference broadcasted live on radio and television.
Stuart's statement ended the industrial action which statred on January 4 and involved 34 teachers and their representative the Barbados Secondary Teacher Union (BSTU).
"Following meetings with the BSTU and the striking teachers on Friday and Sunday, I have secured the agreement of the union that their members who are presently on strike from their work at Alexandra School will return to work on Wednesday morning", Stuart said.
He made it clear that the teachers were willing to go back to the classrooms on Monday.
"I set the date for Wednesday morning because I dont want anybody be in any doubt as to what kind of climate should exsist at the Alexandra School when these teachers return to work", Stuart added.
