Bridgetown.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has defended the Town and Country Department, at the annual general meeting of the Barbados Employer's Confederation yesterday,
"I go out on sites visits with the department, armed with files and use what modest lawyerly skill I possess to evaluate the evidence; and I really cannot honestly say that we have a bad Town and Country Planning Department," Stuart said.
He noted, that in many cases when appeals were filed, the delays resulted from appellants requesting adjournments at the last minute or not turning up.
The department is then reviled and smeared as though the fault is theirs, Stuart stated.
In the past decade, the Town and Country Planning Department has received criticism from contractors and the public. over the time the Department takes to approve building plans.
