Student athletes injured

Fifteen members of the Springer Memorial Girl School track team received injuries in a vehicular accident this afternoon.

According to police reports, the students were being driven to the National Staduim for track and field training, when the ZM van that was transporting them was involved in an accident with a truck at Station Hill.

The emergency services were mobilized and five of the students were taken by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Eleven students were treated at the Winton Scot Polyclinic in Bridgetown.

The driver of the ZM Simon Watson also received several injuries and was taken to the hospital; Denzil Evelyn the driver of the truck was also injured.

Springer Memorial School the only all girls secondary school in Barbados has won the track and field championship for girls on a number of occasions.
