The 2012 sugar crop will start on Wednesday, the unavailability of about 300 tonnes of hydrated lime, a product used to purifty cane juice before it is converted to sugar delayed the begining of the harvesting of the crop this week.
However, 60 tonnes of lime was sourced from Trinidad and Tobago and another 300 tonnes will be coming from the United States this weekend.
The crop is expected to produce 2200 tonnes of sugar this year.
