Berbice. Police are investigating the circumstances which led to the death of a 29-year-old weeder attached to GuySuCo’s Providence Estate, Berbice.
Dead is Devindra Kistoo of Brothers Village, East Bank Berbice.
Reports are that Kistoo and another weeder were cleaning a canal at South Glasgow on Friday when the incident occurred. The two men were weeding on opposite sides working their way towards each other.
After the men had lunch, they went into the water to commence work about 80 metres from each other.
Minutes later, there was no sign of Kistoo, and upon investigation, his hat was seen floating.
An alarm was raised and residents began to search the canal. Moments later, his lifeless body was fished out.
Eyewitnesses said what appeared to be two small holes were seen on his neck.
They said the area in which the weeders were working is known to be dangerous.
Kistoo’s body is now lying at the New Amsterdam Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
