Georgetown: The Suriname Counter Terrorism Unit yesterday shot and injured two most wanted criminals after a car chase at Nickerie. According to Starnieuws Suriname Poeran Gopi from Guyana and Ricky Sardjoe from Suriname were among a group of four seriously injured after the CTU operatives opened fire on the car they were in after they tried to speed away. Information is that the men were at Frederickweg Nickerie in a wagon and stopped at a supermarket when the CTU agents, who were trailing them decided to move in. Following the encounter, one man was shot dead and the others tried to flee, but the agents opened fire. The Nickerie police were not even aware of the operation, Trakkernews was told.
Following the shooting and examination of the vehicle unearthed a loaded weapon. Poeran Gopi was born on January 26, 1978 in Guyana. He lived in the extended Hoogestraat No 4. Ricky Sardjoe was born on December 13, 1979 and lived at Groenhartweg No 2. The gang is wanted for armed robberies, illegal arms and drugs.
