San Fernando: Suspended doctors at the San Fernando General Hospital have agreed to go before a new tribunal being set up to investigate the death of 29-year-old Chrystal Boodoo Ramsoomair, rescinding an earlier decision not to do so.
Five doctors and five nurses were suspended following the death of the mother of three and on Monday the suspended doctors had said they would not appear before a tribunal. They had argued that one of the doctors on the tribunal was a member of the medical council which would have to determine the fate of the doctors.
Today president of the Medical Professional Association, Dr Shehenez Mohammed said the doctors were told that Dr Bharath Bassaw who is attached to another region and who works at the University of the West Indieis, would have chaired the inquiry.
Following a three-hour meeting on Tuesday evening the doctors agreed that they will give evidence to the tribunal.
