The police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred at about 1 this morning at Bel Air Promenade, Georgetown, during which taxi-driver Ron Van Sertima, 34 years, was shot and injured to his left shoulder and mouth.
Investigations revealed that the victim was hired by a man and a woman along Sheriff Street to be taken to Prashad Nagar.
While on the way the man pulled out a handgun and demanded that Van Sertima stop the car and hand over his valuables. However, he attempted to drive away and was shot by the armed man.
At this stage Ron Van Sertima stopped the vehicle and the perpetrators escaped. He has been admitted to a hospital in a stable condition.
