Taxi drivers overpower bandit under gunfire.

Georgetown: Just after noon today, dispatcher Jenella Burke, 25 years, was on duty at the Green Ice Taxi Service at Cross Street and Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, when a man armed with a handgun entered and held her at gunpoint. The armed man took away her personal jewellery, two cell phones and $51,000.00 and escaped on foot.

The victim alerted taxi-drivers attached to the taxi service as to what had transpired and some drivers managed to confront the suspect along Mandela Avenue. He discharged rounds in the direction of the drivers which damaged a window of HB 8303. However he was overpowered and the unlicensed .38 revolver with three live rounds and two spent shells were taken away and handed over to the police.

The suspect is also in police custody after being treated at the GPHC and sent away.

A cell phone and a quantity of cash were recovered by the police.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two other men who are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
