Several teachers at the Alexandra Secondary School in St Peter will not be reporting for duty today, as the Barbados Secondary Teachers' Union (BSTU) folowed through on a treat to withdraw their labour because longstanding dispute with principal of the school Jeft Broomes.
On December 12 members of the BSTU passed four resolutions including one regarding comments made by Broomes at the school's speech day ten days earlier.
The resolution said Broomes criticized a senior teacher in a maner that was hostile and inflammatory and deliberately directed at the BSTU.
According to the union the incident came on the heels of previous failures of Broome to observe best pratice in labour management relations and several breaches of good administration dating back to 2006.
Yesterday, 30 teachers including eight of the nine department heads and four of the school's senior teachers gathered at BSTU headquarters.
President of union Mary Redman said the teacher will no be reporting for work today the first day of the term, instead would be meeting to strategize further.
"We will also begin our meeetings at other schools to sensitize our membership as it relates to their possible involvement at the Alexandra School may escalate to include all schools where we have members", Redmen said.
