Georgetown: A teenage girl of Block Three, Providence, East Bank Demerara, was Friday morning remanded to prison after she pleaded guilty to an extortion charge.
The defendant, 19-year-old Princess Williams, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
She pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that between January 4, and 7, 2021, at Georgetown, with intent to extort money from Kenrick Thomas of $10M, she threatened to accuse him of attempting to rape her.
The court heard that the defendant and Thomas once shared a relationship and on January 4, he invited her over to his home and asked her to have sexual intercourse. An argument ensued and the relationship ended.
She later sent a voice note to Thomas stating that she will make a complaint that he raped her if he didn’t pay her $10M. The matter was reported and the teen was later arrested and charged. Williams was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to March 1, 2021.
