Antigua : Two teenage girls, one just 15 years old are today behind bars, following an attack on a policeman.
Another two, who were also involved – 16-year-old twins – escaped a prison sentence by forking out compensation.
The four girls, one brandishing two knives, turned on the cop when he attempted to break up a fight in Ottos last week, beating him in the face.
The quartet – who can not be named for legal reasons – appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh yesterday in connection with the incident.
All four were charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and wounding. The youngest was also charged with using indecent language and being armed with an offensive weapon. One of the twins was charged for being armed with an offensive weapon.
The fourth young girl faced a second wounding charge plus a count of being armed with an offensive weapon.
On the disorderly conduct offences, they were each ordered to pay $200 or face a month in prison. For wounding the police officer, they must all pay compensation of $500 forthwith or spend a year behind bars.
The twin charged with being armed with an offensive weapon was fined $200, payable before November 30, or spend six months in prison. The other two teens, who have been before the court on numerous occasions for running away from home, had to pay the money right away.
Chief Magistrate Walsh also imposed a $500 fine on the 15-year-old for indecent language.
The other 16-year-old was also fined $1,000 on the offensive weapon charge and $500 on the wounding offence. The sums had to be paid immediately or face imprisonment of six months and one year and six months respectively.
