Antigua : As shocked family members pray for the recovery of 14-year-old Kenaca Ryan, police are questioning a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the Monday afternoon shooting.
The victim was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) up to late last night with a bullet lodged in his lower left back, two relatives said.
The family member said doctors at Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) performed surgery on the teen early yesterday and they were able to treat his internal injuries and suture the entry wound of the bullet.
Ryan was shot in the right arm and the bullet travelled through his body and was lodged in his lower back up to last night.
Doctors are reportedly set to make a second attempt to remove it some time in the near future.
Reports indicate the National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) student was at the back of a shop in Gray’s Farm around 4:30 pm Monday when he was shot by one of three young males in his company.
Earlier, police issued a press statement indicating an adult male took Ryan to the hospital and left him there.
Lawmen have appealed to the public for assistance in solving the crime. People are urged to call the Criminal Investigations Department at 463-3913\14; call CrimeStoppers at 800-TIPS (8477) or make a report at the nearest police station.
