Bridgetown.
General Secretary of the Barbados Worker Union( BWU) Sir Roy Trotman, says tele- communication giant Cable and Wireless which trade under the name LIME could be hit by industrial action next week.
Speaking to reporters at the BWU headquarters yesterday evening, Sir Roy said he will be meeting with Cable and Wireless employees this morning to apprise them on the matter.
He traced the developments which lead to the pending strike action saying:"We have been endeavoring now for three years to compete an agreement whose life ends on March 31, 2012."
"Before that, we have been endeavouring to have a job evaluation exercise completed, the one started in 1997 and was stopped because of Cable and Wireless", Sir Roy said.
"The second one started in 2006, that job evaluation which the company engaged BIMAP to do and still is not complete as we speak today. We have not been able to get the information to use as the basis on which to complete our current negotiations which are effective April, 2009, three years", he added.
According to Sir Roy, Cable and Wireless requested a a break to study the two positions after a meeting on December 5, 2011. to study the two positions and come up with a new proposal.
"The company showed up today and insulted everyone present by repeating the same offer it made on December 5, last year, the situation is that the BWU is on the verge of taking industrial action against Cable and Wireless", Sir Roy said.
