The ninth Parliament comes to an end on September 27th.

Georgetown : Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) Dr Roger Luncheon briefing the media after this week’s Cabinet meeting disclosed that the Ninth Parliament will end on September 27th. The final sitting of the National Assembly is scheduled for Thursday.

Among the issues which will be addressed includes the financial bill which deals with the supplementary provisions and the replenishment of the contingency fund laid by the Minister of Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, the report of the parliamentary special select committee on the Telecommunications Bill and the Public Utility Commission bill.

The HPS said that the withdrawal by the opposition from sittings and proceedings, followed by their subsequent refusal to attend parliament when summoned to attend is historic not only for Guyana and the Commonwealth Caribbean but also the entire Commonwealth.
The life of the Ninth Parliament is precisely five years after the day it met in 2006.
New parliamentarians are expected to be sworn in by December 28, as that will see the first sitting of the Tenth Parliament.
