Minister of Labour, Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo says too many Barbadains are sitting back expecting a Government job to be handed to them.
She has also chastised people who wait for their unemployment benefits to end before they look for employment.
"There are people who ask me to find them a job and when i ask them what of job, they reply any kind of Government job, we have to shake ourselves out of that thinking," Byer-Suckoo told Trakker News.
She added that despite popular belief, Government role was not to simply provide jobs for everyone especially in the currently economic situation.
"There will never be enough jobs for everyone in the Government. The Civil Service is already very large and it cannot be made more efficient by just adding people', Byer-Suckoo said.
"I know my consituents would be happy if I just give out Government jobs but the reality is it cannot happen",says Byer-Suckoo.
