There is absence of a National Policy for Youth- APNU

Georgetown- A-P-N-U says it confirms that, consistent with the myopic approach to human development, after 19 years in office, the PPP/C Administration has shown a total disregard for youths and youth development in Guyana.

The party added that the deliberate rash of PPP/C sponsored “mega-concerts” and so-called “culture fest” is no substitute for educating the youth of our nation on the positive values required to develop themselves as responsible citizens and to develop the skills needed for them to become productive and responsible adults. The brazen and openly deceptive “Impress” event, at the International Conference Centre, funded by the Guyanese taxpayer, did nothing for young people but impress the public of the PPP’s wanton disregard for truth, honesty and transparency. The Impress event was most impressive for its display of vulgarity, cynicism and electoral opportunism APNU stated.

The party believes that the National Youth Policy should be designed to provide a comprehensive and multi-sectoral framework for addressing youth issues in a manner that supports the achievement of sustainable socio-economic development. A-P-N-U says it is committed to develop a National Youth Policy that will be the result of genuine participation and empowerment of young people to enable their active engagement in the mainstream socio-economic and political development of Guyana. Youths represent a vast human resource potential which, when adequately trained and developed, will be a driving force for national development.
